Summary of Position: Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) in Grand Rapids, MI prepares artists and designers to have impact through practice. KCAD has dual enrollment partnerships with many high schools throughout Michigan. These high schools offer students the opportunity to take KCAD classes for KCAD college credit. The classes are taught in the high school or in another site in the high school area. Responsibilities for a KCAD adjunct faculty member, for the High School Dual Enrollment program, include syllabus and class preparation, instruction during scheduled course time, providing reasonable availability to students for consultation and assistance with respect to assigned course(s), evaluation of student performance, and communication with KCAD regarding course outcomes and expectations.

Required Education: Master’s degree in a related field to content being taught
or:
Master’s degree in unrelated field and additional minimum of 18 graduate credits in a field related to the content being taught
or:
A bachelor’s degree in a related field to content being taught, a minimum of six years of experience working in the field of industry of the content area being taught, and a combination of:
• Evidence of recognized accomplishment in area being taught, including awards, bibliography of publication referencing design or art work or scholarship or;
• Evidence of scholarly/creative accomplishment in terms of completed design work, patents, exhibitions, presentations, publication, and juried recognition at the regional, national and international level or;
• Evidence of service to the field in terms of memberships on committees or boards of professional organizations and other contributions to the field.
 
Required Work Experience: Minimum of one year teaching art or design at the applicable high school dual enrollment location.
Evidence of student success in the high school art or design classroom.
Evidence of successful professional practice (teaching and/or in art and design).
 
Required Licenses and Certifications: K-12 teacher certification

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: Masters degree in a related field to content being taught.  
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Prepare syllabus and class according to college standards and distribute syllabi.
Teach appropriate course(s) as assigned.
Assess and evaluate student learning and provide formative feedback throughout the course.
Provide reasonable availability to students for consultation and assistance with respect to assigned course(s).
Evaluate student performance.
Liaise with appropriate KCAD program to ensure course outcomes are adequately achieved.
Contribute to the college’s continuous improvement.
Identify potential student applicants for the KCAD High School Dual Enrollment program.
Facilitate/manage the completion of KCAD application materials by students.
Maintain effective communication with students and colleagues.
Work collaboratively with faculty, students and staff throughout the college.
Adhere to KCAD policies and deadlines.

Perform any other duties assigned within the position classification area.

For example, in order to determine if there is a minimum of six years of experience in the area being taught, the curriculum vitae/resume must clearly list dates of employment and all applicable experience should be listed. Evidence of recognized accomplishment, scholarly/creative accomplishment and service in the field must be detailed.
