The Mechatronics Lab Assistant plays an important behind-the-scenes role in supporting the hands-on learning environment within the Mechatronics Technology program at the College of Western Idaho. This position helps ensure that lab equipment, tools, and materials are maintained, organized, and ready for student use. Working closely with instructors and lab staff, the Lab Assistant supports lab operations through equipment maintenance, fabrication of training aids, inventory management, and safe lab practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain Safe, Functional, and Ready-to-Use Lab Equipment

  • Troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and upgrade power tools and lab equipment.
  • Assist with lab setup and equipment preparation for instructional activities.
  • Secure tools, equipment, and lab facilities after classes and ensure equipment is properly cleaned and maintained.

Support Instructional Lab Operations

  • Assist instructors and lab assistants during mechatronics lab activities.
  • Fabricate training aids and instructional materials used in lab coursework.
  • Issue tools, equipment, manuals, and supplies for instructional use.

Manage Tools, Supplies, and Inventory

  • Maintain accurate physical and digital inventories of tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Prepare inventory updates, work order reports, and supply tracking documentation.
  • Research and recommend new or replacement equipment as needed.

Ensure Compliance with Safety and Hazardous Material Standards

  • Ensure proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain current Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) documentation for lab materials.
  • Support safe lab practices and compliance with safety procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience in Mechatronics (knowledge and practical experience)
• Knowledge of mechatronics and electronics to build mechatronics trainers.
• Working knowledge of inventory methods, materials, and supplies procurement and
handling, storing, and shipping methods
• Experience working with MSDS sheets and safety procedures for caustic, flammable, and hazardous products.
• Experience using equipment service

Additional Instructions for Applicants:

*This is a part-time, temporary position expected to conclude June 30, 2026. Weekly hours will not exceed 19.5.

**All candidates must reside within, or be willing to relocate to, a reasonable commuting distance from CWI. Employment visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
