The Opportunity
The School of Philosophical, Historical and Indigenous Studies (SoPHIS) within the Faculty of Arts is seeking a Research Officer to support the ARC Discovery project Australia’s first history of disability: Making a more inclusive Australia. Working under the direction of Dr Kate Murphy (Lead Chief Investigator), this part-time (0.4 FTE) position provides research services and administrative coordination to ensure the delivery of project outcomes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting bibliographical and archival research relevant to the project objectives.
- Providing administrative support for the processing, handling, and preservation of oral history interviews.
- Assisting with data collection, entry, preliminary analysis, and literature reviews.
- Maintaining project documentation, scheduling bookings, and supporting compliance with research ethics and data management protocols.
- Maintaining effective communication with team members, research partners, and external stakeholders.
About You
You will bring a methodical approach to research administration alongside strong organisational and analytical skills.
Specifically, you will have:
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
- Demonstrated project administration skills within a research context, with the ability to manage timelines and meet deadlines.
- Proven capability in data analysis, record-keeping, and maintaining high standards of detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience drafting administrative and research documentation.
- High-level computer literacy and adaptiveness in learning new software tools.
- The capacity to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
