The Opportunity

The Monash X-ray Platform (MXP) is an ISO 9001-certified, open-access research facility and one of Australia’s largest in-house X-ray facilities, providing advanced X-ray diffraction, scattering, microscopy and photoelectron spectroscopy capabilities across materials, environmental, biomedical, energy and mining research. 

We are seeking a Senior Scientific Office– X-ray to provide specialist technical and scientific expertise within the Platform, with a primary focus on the independent operation and management of X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS).

You will provide expert technical advice and user support, deliver training, develop methods, troubleshoot instrumentation and ensure high-quality data to support world-class research. You will also support X-ray Computed Tomography (XCT) and, where required, broader MXP capabilities including XRD and SAXS.

Working with a high degree of autonomy, you will collaborate with researchers, students, industry partners and colleagues to maintain operational excellence, enhance the user experience and contribute to the ongoing development of analytical services, training and research infrastructure.

About you

You will have demonstrated experience with XPS and advanced analytical instrumentation, together with the ability to provide specialist advice, troubleshoot technical issues and develop analytical methods. You will bring strong communication and stakeholder management skills, experience supporting or training users, and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative research environment.
