The Opportunity

The Financial Accountant provides expert accounting services to the University and is pivotal in maintaining accurate general ledger and accounting integrity, overseeing critical month-end and year-end processes, delivering high-quality financial accounting advice, and assisting with statutory reporting. The Financial Accountant will also play a key role in engaging with audit and compliance matters.

This position will be responsible for delivering the University’s core financial accounting functions, including oversight of month-end and year-end close-off processes and providing advanced financial analysis. You'll assist in the preparation of highly complex consolidated financial statements, support audit compliance, and provide technical advice to inform strategic decision-making. Your work will contribute to shaping financial policy and enhancing financial systems through process improvements and training. Collaboration is central to this role, requiring strong engagement with business units and functional areas to ensure consistency, integrity, and continuous improvement in financial practices.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A degree in Finance or Accounting, along with a CPA/CA accreditation.
  • Deep knowledge of statutory reporting, Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and financial audit processes.
  • Deep experience in financial reporting in a large and complex organisation.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and modern financial systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across the business.
