The Opportunity
The Senior Management Accountant at Monash University plays a key role in delivering high-quality financial management services across designated portfolios. Partnering closely with stakeholders, this position provides strategic budgeting, forecasting, analysis, and reporting, while driving financial capability and supporting organisational goals.
As part of a collaborative, service‑focused finance team, you will lead the development of effective budget controls and implement solutions to complex financial management challenges. You’ll also guide a small team of trained professionals, with a strong emphasis on nurturing their ongoing development and supporting each individual to grow and excel.
This role oversees a broad suite of financial management activities aligned to business needs, including budgeting, planning, modelling, forecasting, and delivering complex analysis and reporting for senior leadership. You will drive financial performance monitoring, develop targeted strategies to enhance financial capability and proactively resolve emerging issues. You will also build strong stakeholder relationships and contribute to continuous improvement, risk management and compliance across the University.
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
- A recognised postgraduate accounting qualification (CPA or CA preferred) or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated expertise in strategic budgeting, financial analysis, reporting, and systems improvement within complex environments.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate and support a client service team, fostering a high‑performance culture
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply accounting standards and financial policies
- Clear, authoritative communication skills suited to diverse stakeholders
- Experience with financial systems and familiarity with the higher education sector (highly regarded)
