The Opportunity
The Database Manager plays a key role in supporting education and research activities across the Faculty of Economics and Business, with a focus on the development, management and effective use of commercial data platforms. The role supports staff and students in the use of databases for teaching and research purposes, including curriculum development, research projects, data access and extraction, and the use of software and Gen AI in line with university policies and compliance requirements.
The position is responsible for overseeing database operations and vendor relationships, including contract coordination, compliance and risk management, subscription oversight and budget tracking. The Database Manager also promotes awareness and effective use of databases through workshops, newsletters and online resources, while collaborating with departments and centres to ensure database offerings remain relevant, cost-effective and aligned with the Faculty’s education and research priorities.
As the successful candidate, you will hold a PhD or relevant Masters/Honours qualification with equivalent professional experience in a related discipline, with demonstrated expertise in managing large datasets for research and educational purposes. You will bring experience in contract and budget management, strong technical skills in SAS, STATA, R, and Python, and excellent interpersonal skills to build effective relationships across staff, students, and external stakeholders. A proactive, organised, and solutions-focused approach, together with a passion for supporting academic activities and continuous improvement, will see you thrive in this role.
