The Opportunity

Shape the future of Occupational Therapy at a world-leading university

Monash University is seeking an exceptional academic leader to take on the dual role of Associate Professor/ Professor and Head of Department – Occupational Therapy. This is a unique opportunity to lead one of Australia’s most respected departments in allied health education and research, with a budget responsibility of approximately $20 million and direct supervision of 8 staff.

As a Level D or E Professor, you will be recognised as an international leader in your discipline, with an outstanding track record in research, teaching, and engagement. You will foster excellence across the department, lead high-impact research, and champion innovative and inclusive education that prepares the next generation of occupational therapy professionals.

In your role as Head of Department, you will:

  • Provide strategic and academic leadership aligned with Faculty and University priorities
  • Drive excellence in teaching, research, and professional engagement
  • Lead and support staff development, performance, and equitable workload distribution
  • Build strong relationships across Monash and with national and international partners

You will bring:

  • A doctoral qualification and standing as a leading authority in occupational therapy or a closely related field
  • A strong track record in high-quality publications and competitive research funding
  • A history of successful supervision of postgraduate research students
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and curriculum innovation
  • Proven leadership in academic governance and a collaborative, inclusive leadership style

This continuing professorial appointment includes a renewable five-year term as Head of Department, providing the opportunity to leave a lasting impact on a thriving department and make a meaningful contribution to health care and community wellbeing.
