Brisbane | National Travel Required | Shape the Future of Rail Technology Across Australia
Most engineering roles focus on maintaining what's already there. This one is about shaping what's next.
At Aurizon, you'll have the opportunity to leave a lasting footprint on Australia's freight rail network, leading the technology and systems that keep trains moving safely, reliably and efficiently across the country. While others may spend years focused on a single project, here you'll influence operational rail technology on a national scale, delivering solutions that have a real and immediate impact across Australia's largest rail freight network.
We're seeking a highly experienced engineering leader with an electrical, systems, signalling, communications, automation, rollingstock technology, operational technology (OT), or industrial IT background to lead our Train Systems function.
This is a rare opportunity to combine engineering excellence, innovation and leadership while working on technology that directly supports the movement of essential commodities and freight across Australia.
You'll work with teams and stakeholders nationwide, requiring regular travel across our operations, maintenance facilities and project sites throughout Australia.
What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the strategy, performance and development of Train Systems engineering capability.
- Drive innovation across operational technology, onboard systems, communications and train control technologies, including European Train Control System (ETCS) and Automatic Train Protection (ATP).
- Provide expert technical leadership and governance for engineering solutions.
- Partner with operational, maintenance and project teams nationally to deliver technology improvements and business outcomes.
- Build, mentor and develop a team of engineering professionals.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities to improve safety, reliability and operational performance.
- Champion engineering best practice, compliance and continuous improvement.
You'll bring:
- Degree-qualified Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Systems, Computer, Communications or related Engineering.
- Significant experience leading complex engineering or technology functions.
- Background in rail, heavy industry, mining, transport, utilities, defence, telecommunications or other critical infrastructure environments.
- Experience delivering operational technology (OT), control systems, electrical systems, communications networks, train control, signalling, automation or industrial IT solutions.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and leadership capability.
- A passion for innovation, technology and developing high-performing teams.
Build something that lasts.
The systems you influence won't sit on a shelf or become part of a temporary project. They'll help power Australia's supply chain for decades to come.
Work across one of Australia's most critical transport networks, supporting operations that span multiple states and territories.
Technology meets operations.
See your engineering decisions translate directly into improved safety, reliability and operational performance.
Engage with teams and operations across Australia, gaining exposure to diverse environments, challenges and technologies.
Help shape the next generation of train systems, operational technology and rail innovation.
