About the role: As a Category Lead within Aurizon’s Procurement & Enterprise Services division, you will play a critical leadership role in delivering strategic commercial procurement and supply chain outcomes across the Bulk and Containerised Freight portfolios.

You will provide end-to-end source-to-contract expertise, lead supplier and contract management for Tier 1 suppliers, identify and deliver cost savings, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across your category which includes procurement of Mobile Plant & Equipment as well as Freight & Logistics services across Aurizon’s operations.

  • Deliver end-to-end procurement, contract negotiation, and supplier performance management within your category.
  • Manage commercial relationships with Tier 1 suppliers to optimise value and performance.
  • Partner with key business stakeholders to understand operational and strategic priorities.
  • Identify commercial opportunities, cost savings, and aggregation benefits.
  • Lead a high-performing team, providing coaching, mentoring and development.
  • Ensure adherence to legislation (e.g., Competition and Consumer Act), legal principles and corporate policies.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using strong commercial and business acumen.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Extensive commercial negotiation and contract management experience.
  • Bachelor of Business or related discipline.
  • Professional commercial accreditation (e.g., CIPS, CA, CPA, CFA) – preferred.
  • Experience in leading and managing Transport & Logistics contracts - preferred
  • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams in complex operational environments.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and influencing capability.
  • High-level analytical, problem-solving and commercial insight skills.
