About the role:

Aurizon’s Coal Business is looking for an additional Technical Specialist (Train Operations) to be based at our Hexham depot in Newcastle.  You will investigate and manage the development of endorsed standards and procedures for train operations and train handling. 

The role will be accountable for;

  • Leading the development and implementation of optimum driving methodologies to delivering safe train handling to mitigate derailments, SPAD's and train partings.
  • Leading the development and implementation of yard operations standards to deliver safe and efficient operation of services.
  • Leading the development and implementation of upskilling Train Drivers to problem solve issues with the train, e.g. fault finding and resolution.
  • Utilising simulation and train data analysis tools to assist in decision making.
  • Continually improving the technical capability of Driver Trainers to improve train driving standards within the region. 
  • Undertaking reviews and investigations, conduct research and prepare comprehensive and accurate reports on operational activities or incidents (i.e. train management) as required.
  • Maintaining a high level of competence and technical knowledge of train and yard operations through the regular performance of relevant duties (i.e. driving trains)

 

About you: 

  • You’re a qualified locomotive driver with extensive driving experience in Hunter Valley Region and/or SEQ. 
  • High level leadership and interpersonal skills which encourage participation, teamwork, trust and continual learning.
  • Sound investigation, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High level oral and written communication skills.
  • Substantial knowledge of safety management systems, Safeworking systems, isolation and lockout standards.
  • Substantial knowledge of the statutory regulations, Industrial Relations and policy provisions relating to train operations.
  • Demonstration of integrity in all business interactions and honours personal commitments.
