Working Title:  Chief Curator PMA
Job Summary: Reporting to the Director, the Chief Curator oversees the Museum's curatorial program and cultivates relationships with cultural and academic stakeholders to support the mission of the institution and create more opportunities for meaningful engagement across the UWF Historic Trust, the wider university population, and the community-at-large. The Curator develops and organizes exhibitions, conducts original research on the collections, recommends acquisitions, develops relationships with donors and collectors, and coordinates collections planning. The Curator supervises the curatorial department of the PMA and works closely with the Director and the Curator of Education to align the museum's education, programming and operations with the curatorial vision.

Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelors degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
Position Qualifications: Knowledge of best practices in the areas of museums, art and visual culture, collections stewardship, art handling, program development, exhibition development, research and scholarship.
Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and four years appropriate experience.
Essential Functions / Job Duties:
  • 10% - Develop and maintain advantageous relationships with the community of artists, dealers, museum colleagues, professional organizations, collectors, and friends of the Museum to enhance the PMA’s position and relevance locally, nationally, and internationally and coordinate curatorial projects and exhibitions that increase access and visibility of the permanent collection. - (Essential)
  • 20% - With other staff, manage all aspects of in-house exhibition production and traveling exhibition programs, including contract negotiation, shipping logistics, condition reporting, staff and intern supervision, supply purchases, research and writing for exhibition labels and graphics, catalogs and exhibit didatics, exhibit design and installation. - (Essential)
  • 20% - Oversee registrar and collections management tasks for the institution, including maintaining physical and electronic records of loans, acquisitions, and exhibitions; providing general care and recommendations for the permanent collection; EmbARK data entry; and maintaining galleries and collections storage. - (Essential)
  • 15% - Work with the Curator of Education on educational initiatives for various Museum audiences, which may include developing and leading public curatorial and gallery talks, providing research for docent packets, assisting with tours as needed, developing didactic and other written materials for various audiences, and improving the ADA accessible interpretation of exhibits by providing auxiliary aids for exhibitions including audio tours, virtual tours, etc. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Coordinate with other Trust division heads on marketing, education, membership, rentals and events related to the Museum and the Trust. - (Essential)
  • 10% - Research and recommend potential acquisitions and present recommendations to the Collections Committee and assist with grant-writing and other development opportunities for the Museum. - (Essential)
  • 5% - Other duties and responsibilities as required. - (Essential)
  • 10% - With other staff, website design and management; social media content creator and management; multi-media visitor services and wayfinding management. - (Essential)
