      • PCB’s, devices and power modules at manufacturing and component level.
      • Component failure analysis including electronics fault finding to component level.
      • Providing proven solutions to problems under pressure.
      • Working with the supply chain on both development and control of processes.
      • Conducting research and development projects.

      Demonstrate knowledge of…

      • Soldering, welding (solid state and fusion), brazing and sintering.
      • A wide knowledge of engineering materials from a component usage perspective, along with production techniques for the materials.
      • The properties of a wide selection of metallic alloys, polymers/plastics and composite materials.
      • Materials characterisation techniques, particularly related to electronics.

      Hold these qualifications…

      • Materials Degree with 2:1 classification or above and hold greater than 3 years’ experience in a similar job role.

      Be…

      • Tenacious, curious and self-motivated
      • Familiar with hands-on failure investigations on a daily basis to deliver engineering direction.
      • A clear and concise communicator at all levels.
      • Experienced in technical leadership.
      • Methodical and rigorous with outstanding attention to detail.
      • Able to work under pressure with tight time constraints.
      • Able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
      • Respectful of Health & Safety matters.
      • Able to provide a strong academic background.

       

      Success in this role will be if you… (deliverables)

      • Failure Analysis: You will be responsible for leading hands-on forensic investigation into failed electronic components, often within short timescales, both to identify the root cause of the failure and recommend options to prevent future occurrence.
      • Materials Development: You will provide expert guidance to HPP’s engineers in both Engineering and Operations regarding material selection and production techniques, whilst also researching and developing new material options that offer a benefit to the Power Unit.
        • Provide advice and guidance to lead materials selection of metallic, plastic and composite materials and processes, including coatings for electronic applications.
        • Support manufacturing and quality departments on material and process issues including liaison with and visiting external suppliers.
        • Produce and develop materials specifications and quality standards.
        • Provide advice on sourcing and selection of external suppliers.
        • Identify and conduct relevant research and development activities focused on improving materials, processes and characterisation techniques to improve the Power Unit.
