About the Parks & Gardens Department This department is part of our City Services Division, and is the operations arm responsible for the sustainable planning and management of Council's open, outdoor and natural environments including all green spaces, trees and the Geelong Botanic Gardens.
About the Role This position is responsible for the management, maintenance, and operation of council’s irrigation systems and control networks, and various water supply resources, in a sustainable and effective manner using best practice to provide quality open space and green assets for the community. A key component of achieving this goal is to develop strategic direction and implement best practice standards on irrigation and water management across Council.
The position also requires participation with relevant internal departments and external authorities in project design and development, management, and implementation associated with irrigation infrastructure and water supplies to ensure best practice in terms of design and performance, ensuring optimisation of projects occurs after delivery to reduce the reliance on potable water.
Some of the key responsibilities in this role will include:
Managing, maintaining, and operating irrigation central control systems, and alternative water supplies.
Monitoring all irrigation and alternative water supply infrastructure for operational efficiency and developing and implementing asset management and replacement/renewal plans, and budget submissions.
Participating in the planning, governance and delivery of water harvesting and irrigation projects.
Providing expert specialist advice and support on irrigation and water supply systems across council.
Preparing written reports for use within council and generating timely and accurate reports to stakeholders across the organisation and externally.
Determining, implementing, and monitoring seasonal irrigation requirements for all irrigated sites annually, and analyse and report on current and future water use.
Analysing and reporting on affects and risks of seasonal weather patterns, climate change, and asset growth and use these to forecast annual irrigation water requirements.
Developing and implementing key strategies, policies, and standards associated with irrigation and water management for use across Council.
About You To be successful in this role, you will require:
Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline such as water engineering, water management, irrigation management, irrigation agronomy.
Extensive and comprehensive knowledge and experience on irrigation best practice and associated water management in the provision of sports assets, parks & gardens, golf courses, botanic gardens, trees and other assets.
Extensive experience in project management of Irrigated related projects including business and feasibility case development, grant applications and project delivery.
Extensive and comprehensive knowledge of the horticultural and turf industries and the development of service levels.
Extensive experience in the design, installation, and operation of water harvesting systems and irrigation systems.
Demonstrated stakeholder engagement experience including developing and implementing communication and engagement plans and associated activities.
