About the Healthy Communities Department This department is part of our Community Life Division, and is responsible for the provision of preventative health programs through the implementation of the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan. About the Role The Health Promotion Officer is responsible for activities that implement the Municipal Health and Wellbeing Plan outcomes and achieve equitable health outcomes given the impact of place, life stage, gender, disability, multicultural and Aboriginal experiences.
The Health Promotion Officer will contribute to the strengthening of local networks, support partnerships to undertake health promotion interventions, engage and empower early childhood setting, schools and community members to inform and participate in creating a healthy community and provide advocacy support on preventive health issues.
This is a temporary full-time 12 month Parental Leave replacement position.
Some of the key responsibilities in this role will include:
Delivering the health promotion framework within early childhood services, schools and other key settings for children and their families in the Geelong Region.
Facilitating a health promotion early childhood services and school community of practice network to educate and promote health and wellbeing.
Partnering to initiate and coordinate community level prevention actions that address the determinants of health and result in health equity given health differentials arising from place, life stage, gender, disability, multicultural and Aboriginal experiences.
Increasing the health literacy of the community so members gain access to, understand and use information in ways which promote and maintain good health.
Supporting and promoting evidence-based practice and evaluation.
About You To be successful in this role, you will require:
A tertiary or higher degree in health promotion, public health, social science or related field.
A current employee Working with Children check.
Knowledge of the Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan within the local government environment.
Evidence of participation in effective partnerships both within and across organisations to achieve systemic health and health equity outcomes.
Experience in project implementation within a health promotion environment within quality, time budget and evaluation.
Understanding of the principles and functions of research, policy development and community outcomes.
