About the Parks & Gardens Department
This department is part of our City Services Division, and is the operations arm responsible for the sustainable planning and management of Council's open, outdoor and natural environments including all green spaces, trees and the Geelong Botanic Gardens.

About the Role
This position will program and inspect works, respond to resident enquiries, and work with their crew to ensure projects are completed as scheduled.

Some of the key responsibilities in this role will include:

  1. Assisting in arranging effective and efficient daily/weekly maintenance programming resulting from forward planning undertaken by the Parks Supervisor.
  2. Undertaking inspection of works, estimating and reporting that appropriate maintenance works have been completed.
  3. Responding courteously and effectively to resident requests and complaints regarding routine maintenance operations and following up any cases in relation to works undertaken by private contractors by reports to the Parks Supervisor.
  4. If needed, be rostered on for the participation in the City Services After Hours Emergency Service.
  5. Displaying a positive personal contribution in assisting the Section in providing a customer focused service and commercially driven operation.
  6. Effective and efficient recording of maintenance works undertaken, time sheets and plant sheets.
  7. Undertaking additional duties to assist team members in completing projects consistent with Award and job requirements.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Trade Certificate in Gardening, Horticulture or equivalent, and/or extensive experience in a range of horticultural activities.
  • Some experience in providing leadership to a small crew.
  • Current Drivers Licence.
  • Current employee Working with Children Check
  • Demonstrated experience in the broad range of horticultural maintenance activities performed in the Parks environment.
  • Some experience in operating a range of Park Maintenance and plant and equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in the maintenance of Playgrounds.
