About the Opportunity:

Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of Professional Programs in the College of Professional Studies, the Director of the Lowell Institute School is a leader in the School's mission of providing adults in the New England region with an education that prepares them for the jobs of the 21st century in science, technology, and bio/health sciences.


The Lowell Institute School opens the doors of opportunity to motivated students- often adult learners who are balancing life, work and education- by serving as a hub for Bachelor’s degree completion programs in STEM-related fields. Focused on employability and career advancement, the Lowell Institute School prepares adult learners for the employment opportunities of employers throughout greater Boston and the New England region for STEM-based talent with up-to-the­ minute capabilities and training.

The School exemplifies Northeastern’ s commitment to experiential education throughout the student life cycle, from course assignments that address current industry challenges to opportunities for experiential projects with employers, co­ operative education placements, and innovative educational experiences delivered entirely in the workplace and co-designed with employers.

The Director of the Lowell Institute School at Northeastern University will be a person for whom networking and building mutually-beneficial organizational relationships, both internally and externally, is a prime motivation. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for connecting adult learners, whether coming from community colleges or other directions, with the needs of employers and the instructional resources of an ambitious, innovative research university.

S/he will work externally with:
1. academic leaders at New England community colleges and other educational partners to establish pathways and recruit students for admission to the College of Professional Studies;
2. with employers across New England to identify critical skills gaps and employees whose professional contributions would be strengthened by earning a Northeastern degree;
3. The Deans of our Regional campuses to quantify and pursue potential opportunities for cohorts of students from community colleges or employers in their market areas.

The Director will work internally with:
- marketing, recruiting and communication resources in the College of Professional Studies to spread the School' s message of opportunity to regional and national audiences;
- the Dean, Senior Associate Deans, and leaders in Advancement to develop:
o plans for drawing on the generous gift that founded the Lowell Institute School in support of student scholarships and instructional facilities;
o additional philanthropic investments to extend the School's impact
- colleagues in designing student experiences that motivate and advance adult learners;
- Faculty members in the College to design and implement innovative, stackable degree and non-degree educational programs meeting the needs of both employers and students.


• 10+ years of progressively responsible related experience in workforce development, corporate and organizational learning, human resources management, recruiting and marketing, or adult education, preferably in a STEM-oriented organization.
• Demonstrated motivation for and success in external/organizational partnership development
• Excellent presentation, networking, and written and verbal communication skills
• Knowledge and familiarity with the New England business community and its organizational networks
• Knowledge and skills related to STEM-based education program development and management
• Ability to work independently as well as collaborate successfully in a team environment
• Willingness to travel regionally as needed
• Comfortable interacting with both adult learners and hiring managers and supervisors at all levels, from entry-level to senior leadership
