About the Opportunity:

Join a dynamic, flexible group working to advance integrated, life-long, experiential learning at Northeastern through the Self Authored Integrated Learning (SAIL) project. SAIL’s Research, Assessment, and Analytics is a small, agile, flexible team focused on supporting SAIL and advancing our understanding of student learning through research, assessment and data analytics. We work on projects ranging from the development of data models to inform machine learning features in SAIL to multi-method research and assessment projects, to the development of data visualizations. Northeastern University seeks applicants for the position of Data Analyst – SAIL at Northeastern University. The person filling this position will work closely with the Associate Director – Research, Assessment & Data Analytics for SAIL to provide data analysis, and research design for projects related to the assessment of student learning at Northeastern as related to SAIL. 

Responsibilities:

The Research & Data Analyst will play a central role in the development and communication of high-quality research, assessment, and data analytics related to SAIL for stakeholders across the University. The Research & Data Analyst will play a key role in designing, conducting, analyzing and reporting on assessment and research initiatives related to SAIL and student learning using creative and rigorous methodological approaches. The Research & Data Analyst will also support that research and assessment by managing several large, complex data sets to enable up-to-date, timely and accurate answers to stakeholder questions. The Research & Data Analyst will play a key role in the communication of research, assessment, and data analytics results through the development of data visualizations, written reports, and presentations.

Because the data to be collected and analyzed relates to human behavior and thinking, the successful candidate must have a strong background and significant experience in social science research, preferably with expertise in a broad range of methodological approaches. The Research and Data Analyst will also contribute to the knowledge of how experiential learning and co-curricular education works in conjunction with traditional academic environments by using a variety of social science research and data analysis methods

Qualifications:

• At minimum, a master’s degree in the social sciences from an accredited institution. A doctoral degree is preferred. 
• Extensive experience developing research studies using quantitative and qualitative social science methods, including multi-methods approaches
• A demonstrated ability to use extensive knowledge of qualitative data analysis related to data collected using social science research methods
• Extensive knowledge of statistical analyses related to data collected using social science research methods
• A demonstrated ability of cleaning and analyzing complex databases
• Experience sharing research and data analysis with diverse stakeholder communities (e.g. written reports, data visualization, presentations, workshops, etc.)
• Experience working with relational databases, including cleaning and analyzing complex databases, integrating data, writing basic scripts, and blending in additional data
• Experience with any of the following programs is an asset: Tableau, Power BI, Filemaker, R, SPSS, Stata, Qualtrics, NVivo.


Preferred Qualifications:

 • A proven ability to apply critical thinking skills in a fast-paced, changing environment
• A proven ability to think strategically, effectively, and efficiently
• A proven ability to work with diverse constituents at all levels of the university, including external stakeholders to develop and implement successful assessment plans
• A record of working well with faculty from multiple disciplines
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills
