This is a Psych/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Pool Ad for the following didactic courses:

  • NURS 580: Advanced Concepts in Mental Health Nursing
  • NURS 582: Advanced Mental Health Assessment
  • NURS 584: Advanced Psychopharmacology
  • NURS 532B: Advanced Practice Management of Individuals Across the Life Span I
  • NURS 534B: Advanced Mental Health Management of Groups and Families Across the Life Span
  • NURS 538:  Advanced Mental Health Management of Vulnerable Groups and Populations Across the Life Span

The School of Nursing at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer to teach in the Psych/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program didactic courses.  

As a member of this collaborative professional nursing faculty, applicants will use effective multiple instruction and assessment modalities to promote students’ successful achievement academic success.

The didactic course instructor is responsible to prepare for and teach the didactic course according to the School of Nursing curriculum map. Duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Teaching
    1. Prepare the course syllabus in accordance with university policy, using the master course syllabus.
    2. Provide didactic instruction, according to the syllabus, in a clear and engaging manner that is appropriate to students academic level, to assist them in achieving competence according to the student learning outcomes. 
    3. Utilize multiple instruction modalities to deliver course content to meet a variety of student learning styles.
    4. Utilize multiple learning assessment modalities to meet a variety of student learning styles.
    5. Utilize computer and application-based technologies as required to complete instruction and assessment of student learning. This includes the Learning Management System and all academic support programs adopted by the School of Nursing.
    6. Provide written student feedback in a timely manner to facilitate students’ learning progression through the semester.
    7. Assign grades and maintain course/student records in accordance with the university and school requirements and deadlines.
    8. Assist students to master course material by being available through weekly posted office hours and by helping them to access university academic support services.
    9. Notify the program Associate Director if a student is not progressing as needed and utilize SoN resources to promote student success.
  2. Professional Role
    1. Communicate effectively with colleagues, to resolve issues or concerns; work effectively as part of the overall faculty team demonstrating positive and collaborative interpersonal relations to meet student learning needs
    2. Model professional nursing behavior and communication at all times.
    3. Uphold the ANA Nursing Code of Ethics.
    4. Complete all SoN orientation requirements and respond to administrative requests and inservice responsibilities in a timely manner. 
    5. Maintain professional practice knowledge base and skills needed to instruct learners in contemporary nursing practice for the assigned course.
    6. Accountable for the information presented in monthly faculty meetings.
  3. Other duties
    1. Other duties may include assisting the SoN with the course and/or program revision/development, assisting with research, and participating in committees as an active member of the faculty.   

Minimum qualifications:

  • MSN 
  • Must have recent work experience as a Psych/Mental Health Advanced Practice Nurse.   
  • Must have State licensure by the California Board of Registered Nursing. 
  • Certified as a Psych/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. 
  • Must meet the School of Nursing’s requirements regarding background checks, immunizations, and CPR. 

Preferred qualifications: 

  • DNP or Ph.D. in Nursing 
  • Experience teaching psych/mental health nurse practitioner students.   
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a demonstrated commitment to diversity and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching. 

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per full-time month
  • CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,530 - $11,994 per full-time month
