  • Employment Type: Full Time Permanent (35-hour week)
  • Remuneration: Level 4 from $78,584 (+ 17% superannuation and leave loading)
  • Location:  UNSW Kensington and UNSW Paddington Library

UNSW isn’t like other places you’ve worked. It is home to many leading Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander scholars who do vital work for their communities and the nation more broadly. UNSW is passionate about creating a vibrant, inclusive environment where our Indigenous staff can shine. Our Indigenous Employee Network meets monthly to cultivate community and connection. We also hold regular yarning circles.  We understand the importance of cultural and ceremonial responsibilities, offering 10 days of cultural leave to honour these commitments.

About the role:

The Library Learning Services Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality services to students, staff, and stakeholders through both face-to-face and digital channels. Working as part of a team of Library Learning Specialists and collaborating with staff from other Library and University units, this role is integral to providing a high level of service to all clients.

Reporting to the Library Learning Services Team Coordinator, the Library Learning Services Specialist does not have any direct reports. Key responsibilities include offering consistent and reliable information about Library and University services. The successful person will be the first point of contact for students and external clients coming to our libraries, either on the phone, in person and online, providing accurate and timely referrals to other units within the Library or University in response to the inquiries.

This role is 5 days a week on campus and works on a roster – from 9am to 6pm during the week, with occasional weekend and evening shifts. Due to the nature of the role, no work from home is available.

Whilst this role is open to everyone, we strongly encourage Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to apply.

Who You Are:

You are a great communicator, who enjoys delivering amazing customer service experiences. You are passionate about library services and thinking of growing your career in the space or more broadly in the higher education sector. In addition, we are looking for people who come with:

  • A completed TAFE Library and Information Services qualification (we will also consider candidates who are in the process of completing it)
  • Demonstrated experience providing high quality, consistent and effective client services
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and professional skills, including the ability to engage positively and maturely with clients
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action

How to Apply:

Please submit your resume and a Cover Letter addressing the three following points:

  1. Using your resume as a guide, describe your background and experience in the provision of high quality, consistent and effective client services
  2. Tell us about your experience in liaising and communicating with clients effectively through written and oral communication skills?
  3. Library Learning Services works across three locations via chat, phones and face to face service points. This role requires knowledge of Library and University services and the ability to make accurate referrals. Please discuss how your skills and experience would make you successful in this type of environment?
