Why your role matters

The Emergency Management Coordinator supports emergency management across all UNSW sites, assisting the Emergency Manager in fostering a safety culture and providing daily operational support. Responsibilities include responding to campus emergencies, advising and supporting ECO and security teams, facilitating training exercises and drills, recruiting ECO members, ensuring plans and procedures are regularly reviewed, and leading stakeholder engagement and awareness programs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement ongoing awareness campaigns and modules to support the campus community in understanding their role in emergency management to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Establish and develop strong stakeholder relationships with emergency control organisations and the Security team through regular meetings, conducting evacuation and other scenario-based exercises, and providing advice and support.
  • Support the Emergency Manager in coordinating response to emergency incidents and maintaining critical incident and emergency plans and procedures.
  • Develop and facilitate regular training exercises and drills with the ECO and Security team and support the Emergency Manager in facilitating exercises with the critical incident response team.
  • Develop and implement recruitment campaigns to encourage staff to become members of their local ECO and maintain accurate records of ECO for effective communication during incidents.
  • Ensure information within the emergency management systems is regularly reviewed and accurate, fit for purpose for operational readiness, i.e. Noggin, Archibus, SafeZone.
  • Undertake annual audits of building evacuation diagrams with Chief Wardens and Facilities staff to ensure information is accurate, including designated assembly areas.
  • Coordinate the post incident review process and collate information from relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide ECO teams with the necessary equipment to enable them to undertake their role of emergency response.
  • Act in role of Emergency Manager in their absence.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum PUAFER001-008 certificate and demonstrated experience in responding to emergency incidents and implementing and maintaining emergency management arrangements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legislative requirements, including Australian Standards and NSW State Emergency Management Arrangements.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop and deliver emergency management training with direction from senior management.
  • High level organisational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to deal with multiple tasks and projects, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the proven ability to provide high level briefings and reports to a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is required.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the position, including carrying emergency response equipment across campus.
  • NSW Security license class 1A (preferred).

The successful candidate will be required to undertake a physical and medical assessment prior to joining UNSW.
