Why Your Role Matters

A Research Officer plays a key role in supporting research projects as part of a multidisciplinary team of researchers within the Population Child Health Clinical Research Group, School of Clinical Medicine UNSW.

This position will be embedded within the SCHN clinical PEACH team and will help with the development of quality improvement initiatives to enhance health equity and mixed methods implementation evaluation of these enhancements. The PEACH (Providing Enhanced Access to Child Health Services) program – is an embedded translational research program set up to improve equity of access for priority populations across the Sydney Children’s Hospital’s Network.

The Research Officer will report to Professor Raghu Lingam, Head of the Research Group and has no direct reports. The role is part time, 3 days a week, funded until August 2026.

Main responsibilities Summary

  • To enhance equity-based quality improvement initiatives within the PEACH team
  • Provision of practical and efficient research support to stakeholders, assisting in the conduct of research that contributes to a better understanding of the implementation of paediatric health system improvements, contributing where appropriate
  • Support in the conceptualisation, design, and successful conduct of projects
  • Prepare and contribute to the production of technical reports, manuscripts for publication and tenders or grants for external funding
  • Perform quantitative/qualitative data collection and analyses as required by the research project
  • Proactively assist with research reports, peer-reviewed publications, presentations, ethics applications and progress reports
  • Monitor research protocols, provide problem solving and resolution to any evolving problems related to design, implementation and analysis
  • Liaise with organisations, data custodians, stakeholders and collaborators and actively participate in meetings and discussions as required
  • Coordinate, plan and complete day-to-day research activities within the framework of agreed project timelines and responsibilities.

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who has great communication and stakeholder management skills, aligned with UNSW’s vision and values and coming with:

  • Ideally a Master’s degree as a minimum, in a health-related discipline
  • Due to the nature of the role, we’d love someone who has experience working within a hospital system –prior clinical experience will be highly regarded
  • Understanding and experience of quality improvement or clinical improvement initiatives
  • Experience in qualitative research methods
  • A basic understanding of statistical analysis
  • Knowledge of research protocols, experimental design and planning as involved in developing research projects and reporting against milestones
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands

The successful candidate will need to have (or obtain) a valid NSW Work with Children Check and Police Check.

There is some flexibility in the way the hours can be spread throughout the week, as long as they remain during business hours. Out of the 3 days per week, we expect the successful candidate to work two days onsite.

Candidates will need to have ongoing working rights – this role is not available for sponsorship.
