About the role
Get paid Mine site rates whilst working in our off-site rebuild facility!
Thiess is looking for Heavy Diesel Fitters to fill positions at our off-site rebuild facility at Mt Thorley.
This role will suit someone looking for a role that is predominately a dayshift Monday to Friday position where they will not be required to travel to or work on a mine site.
Alternatively, it will also suit someone looking to get a start as a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic in the mining industry as Thiess can provide a pathway into a site-based role for candidates looking to upskill.
In this role, you will:
- Assist with machine overhauls and component change out
- Carry out general repairs and servicing
- Carry out the necessary work to ensure equipment is mine-site and MDG15 compliant
About You
All experience levels are encouraged to apply, however, this position will ideally suit someone who has experience maintaining the following machinery:
- Caterpillar off-highway trucks
- Caterpillar tracked and ancillary equipment
- Komatsu tracked equipment
- On-highway rigid trucks i.e. Volvo, Hino etc
You will have:
- Relevant Trade Certificate - Diesel Fitter, Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, Plant Mechanic or similar
- Class 'C' Drivers licence
- Post-trade experience working in the mining and heavy earth moving industry
- Attention to detail
- Experience in general maintenance, diagnosis, component changed outs and servicing of heavy earth moving equipment
- Self motivation and a strong work ethic

Thiess are seeking Heavy Diesel Fitters for our Mt Thorley Workshop located in Mt Thorley Industrial Estate.
Successful applicants will be able to work in a variety of industries depending on experience and willingness to rotate through different work environments.
In these roles, you will:
- Perform the servicing, repair and maintenance of large-scale mobile mining equipment including Caterpillar, Liebherr, Komatsu and more
- Mobilisation and demobilisation of equipment from sites
- Source technical information from the relevant available reference manuals, technical bulletins, OEM and computer-based systems
- Ensure good housekeeping standards are always maintained.
- Carry out and assist with work order management
- Work semi-autonomously when required
- Be an addition to a highly motivated and driven team
About you
To be successful in this role you are required to have:
- Proven experience as a Fitter or Electrician
- Post-trade experience working in the Mining or Heavy Earth Moving industry
- Relevant Certificate of Proficiency issued by Training NSW
- Experience in general maintenance, breakdowns, component changeouts, servicing and diagnostic trouble shooting of Heavy Earthmoving equipment
- Demonstrated experience with Liebherr, Caterpillar, Komatsu large earthmoving equipment is preferred
- OEM experience desirable
- Current drivers license
- Valid Australian Citizenship or visa
