Duties and Responsibilities:
70% Counsels and assists all students with matters related to goals, policies, choice of curriculum, course load, study habits, course scheduling, academic action, problem resolution and career development. Through continued monitoring and contact, the Advisor will assist the student to set academic, career, and life goals, and develop strategies for achieving these goals. Ultimately, the Academic Advisor will guide students to become self-directed learners and decision makers who take responsibility for their education and life. Utilizes early alert system and follows through with interventions to aid in student success. Works closely with the academic divisions to ensure updated information is being provided to advisees and informs them of specific student problems and needs. Participates in college retention efforts. Utilizes appropriate technology to support effective advising, including but not limited to, video conferencing software. Actively involved in professional development. Provides guidance and assistance to transfer students to ensure smooth transition into and/or out of four-year institutions. Monitors, tracks and reports progress on a cohort group of students including success, retention, and completion rates. Educates and provide students with information on resources and services available at the campus/center. Works with faculty and staff to promote opportunities for students including participating in academic division events and programs. Attends all advising trainings.
25% Maintains daily record of student advising interactions. Meets with lead division at least once a semester to remain knowledgeable of program changes and updates. Establishes and maintains coordination with other academic divisions and administrative staff regarding student issues and achievements. Serves on various college committees. Submits activity reports as needed.
5% Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an institution accredited by an authorized accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education; or 8 - 10 years commensurate experience in a related field
Required Experience: One (1) year of experience in higher education.
Required Licenses or Certifications: N/A
Preferred Education: Master's Degree
Preferred Experience: Demonstrated experience providing academic advising Excellent oral and written communication skills. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite). Experience with diverse student populations. Ability to multi-task and work in teams. Highly organized.
Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment.
