Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Provide direct clinical services to students through a variety of modalities including individual counseling and wellness workshops.
• Provide leadership in setting policy associated with Counseling Services.
• Resource allocation, planning for future short/long-term needs and managing the efficient operation of the SOWELA Counseling Center.
• Support Disability Services for the main campus and instructional sites including the following: conduct student intake interviews, keep accurate student notes/records; review documentation; assess eligibility for services; prepare accommodation letters; organize reasonable accommodations, services and auxiliary aids; conduct follow up meetings.
• Provide campus consultation regarding student mental health issues and crisis intervention.
• Act as a liaison between student and faculty to resolve conflicts or problems.
• Direct student referrals to off campus facilities for eating disorders, family counseling, alcohol/drug treatment as needed.
• Coordinate care with campus health center to ensure comprehensive and coordinated services for students.
• Facilitate hospital psychiatric admissions of high-risk students and provides follow-up on all counseling referrals.
• Develop and implement student conduct action plans.
• Serve as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) security and privacy officer for the SOWELA Counseling Center.
• Administer and oversee the electronic health records (EHR) system.
• Serve on campus committees related to student mental health and well-being.
• Other duties as deemed necessary.

Required Education: 

• Must possess a Master’s Degree in school counseling, counseling psychology, community counseling, clinical psychology, social work, or marriage and family therapy, or in a closely-related field from a regionally accredited institution.

Required Experience: 

• Two years of full-time work experience in counseling or a closely related field (or part-time experience that equal to 6,240 contact hours).

Required Licenses or Certifications: 

• Must be a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or a Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW) in the State of Louisiana.

Preferred Experience: 

• Higher education counseling center experience preferred
• Licensed Clinical Supervisor, Appraisal Privileges and Telehealth Certification preferred.


Passing pre-employment criminal background screen is required as a condition of employment.
