Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Instructor include, but are not limited to:
Providing and supporting classroom instruction for the HVAC program.
Demonstrating and applying a thorough and accurate knowledge of the teaching field and discipline.
Ensuring that instructional materials and equipment are ready for student use, sufficient in quantity, are properly maintained and are in working order prior to class time.
Planning and organizing instructions to maximize student learning.
Preparing and providing course syllabi and instructional materials to students.
Evaluating and reviewing students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives.
Providing the student with timely information and feedback on his/her academic progress relative to quizzes, tests, homework, and projects.
Maintaining student discipline through effective classroom management.
Keeping appropriate records of testing and grading, as per college standards.
Maintaining office hours for student consultations.
Maintaining a safe, orderly and up-to-date lab area for the application of multiple labs within the HVAC curriculum.
Utilizing technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports, communicate with others and facilitate learning.
Attaining, maintaining and reviewing program certification requirements, as appropriate.
Developing and maintaining professional relations with the industry through industry visits and advisory committee meetings.
Participating in professional development and training activities to improve teaching skills and technical expertise in the area taught.
Fulfilling professional assignments in accordance with the South Louisiana Community College calendar and contractual obligations.
A Bachelor’s degree with at least three (3) years of directly-related occupational experience and skill in the field to be taught,
An Associate’s Degree and four (4) years of occupational experience and skill in the field to be taught,
A relevant Certificate and five (5) years of occupational experience and skill in the field to be taught*
Seven (7) years’ work experience in the teaching field to be taught*
-Must have relevant current professional certification and or licensure in the field to be taught.
-Must have appropriate educational qualifications, as determined by the relevant programmatic accreditation agency, to act in the required positional role.
*Must additionally demonstrate steady progress to attain an Associate’s Degree to be considered for continued employment. Steady progress is defined as successful completion of at least one college course per semester, including the summer, or nine credits per academic year.
Teaching experience in post-secondary education is preferred.
Experience using CANVAS or other online course management technology.
Demonstrated computer knowledge and skills including Microsoft Office.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Passing pre-employment criminal background and drug screen are required as a condition of employment.
