Adjunct Instructor - Digital Media Multiple Locations
Ferris State University’s School of Digital Media invites applications for ongoing adjunct positions as needs arise within the School. The School of Digital Media (SDM) at Ferris offers Bachelor's degrees that seek to provide applied learning experiences for students through small class sizes and project-oriented coursework. We offer equipment and software-intensive learning experience throughout the school from the student’s freshman experience through graduation. We seek to prepare graduates with a broad set of skills that will allow them to pursue jobs in a wide range of Television, Film, Digital Media, Gaming, 3D Animation, and Software Engineering Careers. Expertise in one or more of these disciplines is valued. Ideal candidates will bring professional experience working in some of these environments and a broad range of technical and creative skills. A candidate’s ability to bring relevance to the classroom through their professional experiences is highly desired. This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis. This posting is being used for face-to-face and/or online instruction. If assigned courses are to be taught in person, they must be taught on one of Ferris State University's Campuses. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris site. If assigned courses are to be taught 100% online, the candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan, Illinois (excluding Chicago), Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Ohio, Texas or Wisconsin after acceptance of employment and the duration of time of performing services for Ferris State University. Instructor/Assistant Professor of Graphic Design (Full-time term appointment, non-tenure track) Grand Rapids, MI 49503
Ferris State University's Kendall College of Art and Design (KCAD) in Grand Rapids, MI, prepares artists and designers to have impact through practice. Full-time, term-appointment faculty members at KCAD teach 18 semester credit hours per academic year, typically 3 courses each fall and spring semester. As a KCAD faculty member, you will engage in three kinds of professional development: continuous improvement in teaching effectiveness, creative and/or scholarly contribution within your discipline, and a college service commitment that includes program, college, and community engagement for the advancement of KCAD’s mission. You will actively advise students regarding their academic plan and progress as well as their co-curricular and post-graduation opportunities. The mission of the Graphic Design program of Ferris State University's Kendall College of Art and Design (KCAD) is to graduate problem-solving, critical-thinking design innovators and creative communicators who are skilled in the latest technology, able to work collaboratively in a studio environment, and are passionate about art, design, and contemporary culture. Teaching assignments within the BFA Graphic Design Program include a series of introductory to intermediate software/technology-based courses and design-related content to advanced level courses emphasizing higher-level critical- and systems-thinking and form-making, for example, media strategy, typography, publication design and production management, and contemporary media (web and application design). Courses are to be taught in person on KCAD’s campus in Grand Rapids, MI. The candidate selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. The anticipated start date is August 2025 at the earliest and January 2026 at the latest.
Director of Student Academic Affairs Grand Rapids, MI 49503
The Director of Student Academic Affairs, as the chief retention officer for Ferris State University's Kendall College of Art and Design, will ensure effective performance of all administrative activities within the College associated with recruitment, admission matriculation, guidance, and graduation of students. The successful candidate will work with diverse students, faculty and staff; assess and evaluate student academic progress; plan, organize, and meet deadlines. The anticipated start date for this position is September 2025, however, this is an estimated date and can be revised if needed. The candidate for this position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. Required: Master's degree in a relevant field. Three or more years of experience in a higher education supervisory or leadership role related to student academic affairs or support services.
Dining Service Substitute Trainee Big Rapids, MI 49307
This temporary position provides support in food service production by assisting in food preparation and other service needs in dining, working up to 40 hours a week. Duties will include preparation of entrees and soups, short order cooking, assisting with salad and bakery product preparation, ware-washing and maintenance, and preparation of service areas. Individuals in this position will be exposed to all food types (ex. shellfish, peanuts, & fruit) in an environment where industrial strength cleaners are used. Work hours may vary and you may be required to be on-call. Employees must be able to interact with students, staff, faculty and patrons; project a positive image; communicate effectively with others in a manner that demonstrates a desire to provide great customer service and reflects an awareness of the customers' needs. Individuals hired as a Dining Service Substitute Trainee may not serve in this capacity more than 1 year and may not return to this position after the assignment has ended. Required: High school diploma or GED equivalency.
