Position Summary:
The Department Chair is a faculty position responsible for departmental operations and faculty supervision. The Department Chair also maintains part-time teaching responsibility.
Essential Functions:

Instructional Leadership and Faculty Development
- Guide and support faculty by conducting teaching observations, facilitating regular evaluations, and addressing instructional complaints from students.
- Develop mentoring and acculturation programs for adjunct faculty to foster integration and professional growth.
- Ensure all faculty meet and maintain required industry certifications and credentials, particularly for CTE faculty, while coordinating ongoing professional development.

Departmental Operations and Resource Management
- Oversee the development and maintenance of the annual class schedule, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and faculty expertise.
- Manage departmental budgets, recordkeeping, and operational needs, including dual credit programs, assessment, and facility requirements.
- Regularly review and recommend updates to special course fees in alignment with institutional policies.

Program Development and Industry Collaboration
- Lead outreach and research efforts to develop additional degree programs and certificates, addressing emerging industry trends and workforce needs.
- Collaborate with faculty to recruit employers and industry representatives for program advisory committees, ensuring meaningful technical advisory committee (TAC) engagement and compliance with ICTE reporting requirements.

Recruitment, Hiring, and Performance Management
- Supervise recruitment, hiring, and performance management processes for departmental faculty and staff, ensuring timely evaluations and effective onboarding.
- Maintain an understanding of credentialing requirements for new CTE faculty and ensure compliance with ICTE standards.

Accreditation and Continuous Improvement
- Support faculty through accreditation processes by ensuring alignment with standards and facilitating the necessary documentation.
- Lead initiatives to enhance instructional quality, address program needs, and uphold the values and mission of the institution in all departmental activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A master’s degree in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience as deemed appropriate by the hiring manager.
- Three years of commercial vehicle (heavy truck and/or heavy equipment) experience
- A minimum of three years of demonstrated teaching excellence across diverse courses at the post-secondary level, showcasing a commitment to student success and innovation in education. At least two years of leadership or supervisory experience, preferably within a post-secondary institution.
- Proven ability to make sound decisions aligned with institutional priorities, inspire accountability, and foster a collaborative, goal-oriented team environment. Demonstrated skills in identifying and developing individual team members’ strengths for optimal performance.
- Hands-on experience in curriculum design, implementation, and oversight, ensuring alignment with academic and industry standards.
- Familiarity with problem-based learning approaches and teaching using a variety of technologies, including distance learning tools, blended learning formats, and online instruction.
- Significant knowledge of community college operations, priorities, and challenges, with experience in budget development and financial oversight.
